    AC100 Crew

Last weekend was the AC100 race and again I was the Aid Station Captain at Idlehour Checkpoint, the most remote aid station of the race. We had a great time again this year helping the runners. We also had more volunteers than we've ever had. Below is a picture of the aid station volunteers. They tell me next year we won't have to come down the treacherous Toll Road from the top of Mt Wilson, but might be able to come up from the bottom, which is a whole lot easier. This is my 5th year of driving down from the top and I still get goosebumps coming down. 1000 foot drop offs on a slippery dirt road. That's enough to make you say your prayers all the way down!

In case you don't recognize me, I'm the guy in the chicken suit. Imagine running down a dark trail at 4am and having a giant chicken block your way! Certainly woke up a few runners! In the middle of the photo in the white shirt and gray hat is my office mate, Art Nitta. This is his third year of volunteering. The third guy from the right, in blue running shorts with a cap, is my friend Dick Tufts, who paced me to my 100 mile win in Minnesota many years ago. Many folks in the photo are return volunteers who've been with me two or three years. It's getting to be a great crew!
