    Sharlene Anderson Scholarship

Some kind of milestone has been reached as I approach the anniversary of Shar's death. I seem better able to cope with things this school year and looking back on Spring semester I'm pretty amazed at how I got through it. I'm in the process now of setting up a Sharlene Anderson Scholarship Fund. We're doing a fundraiser on September 9th to raise money for it. Shar's triathlon club and I will administer the fund and award as many scholarships as we can to women athletes who are taking math courses. I hope we can raise at least 3 thousand dollar scholarships for this year.

School itself is a joy. I really enjoyed the first two days and today is my short day. Hoome early today to relax a little bit before my long day tomorrow.

    Back to School

Well, it's been quite a summer! A week at Friends General Conference in Seattle, then a week of living on the streets in LA with a bunch of really neat kids, learning what homelessness is all about, then a week of Pacific Yearly Meeting where I was asked to serve as Presiding Clerk, then ten days hiking up in the High Sierras and the John Muir Trail through Yosemite, one of my favorite places on Earth. I also managed to squeeze in a few weeks with my granddaughter, Jennalise, my brilliant but nervous (new Dad) son, Jaemon, and my wonderful daughter-in-law, Tana. What a wonderful family they are and I feel blessed to be included in it.

Today it's back at school. Even with the first week hassles it feels good to be back teaching. Traffic was backed up three miles from the campus entrance. You can tell we have a record number of students this semester. Every class but one of mine is full. Teaching Geometry, Statistics, and Trigonometry this semester. What fun! Two new books, though, which means lots of new work. The teacher needs to read the books, too, this semester!
