    A new bed!

Well, not quite a new bed, but all new sheets, pillow cases, shams, comforter, bed skirt and coverlet. I felt so luxurious going to sleep last night. Monster, on the other hand, freaked, staying as close to me all night as he could get. He's not used to the down comforter and coverlet, so it's a little higher to get up to the bed and he sinks down a whole lot more when he gets there. I, on the other hand, have decided that getting new bed things is almost as good as getting a new lover and a lot easier to adjust to!

    First tests fo Spring Semester

Hard to believe it's spring semester already and that today and tomorrow are the first tests. Looks like I'll be grading all weekend. No banjo lessons for a month as my instructor, Randy Torno, is off in the Arctic with the Canadian Armed Forces and the Inuit people. He's working on a documentary. Now that Puttin on the Hits is over, I need to start working on getting ready for the Topanga Banjo and Fiddle contest in May!

    Busy last two weeks!!

I've had three major commitments the last two weeks: 1, present the final recommendations for mediation and answer question with all PSWRO staff; 2, clerk Representatives committee; 3., perform in Puttin on the Hits (MSAC's Faculty Association student scholarship-raising show). Any one of these would be a handful and I'm happy to have all three done. I'm treating myself today and tomorrow by DOING NO WORK! None. Nada.

The most pleasant of the three jobs was doing Puttin on the Hits. I was in four acts this year. It was the tenth anniversary of the show and director Joan Sholars picked the most popular of the numbers from the past ten years to reprise. I was part of the hit of last year's show when I played the Professor in a Rocky Horror Picture Show "Time Warp." So I played the Professor again this year in "Time Warp", a bass player in Bobby Darren's "Mac the Knife", a bass player in Garth Brooks' "Friends in Low Places", and a keyboard player in Blondie's "One Way or Another." This is show is wonderful to be a part of and every year has raised about $20,000 for scholarships. This year we again did three performances, one on Friday night and two performances yesterday. Two of the three were sold out, so I expect we will again make around $20,000. Every year we get closer to selling out the Saturday Matinee and based on my view of the audience I would guess we got closer this year.

As much fun as it is, it's a lot of work. Every night last week were rehearsals, so I didn't get home until 11 pm each night! UGH! And that was on top of getting a cold after Representative Committee the week before. So it was a long week. I've slept most of today and most of last week.

Representative Committee went well. We dealt with many difficult issues and, as always, it was a challenge to clerk. I have learned so much by clerking Pacific Yearly Meeting! This meeting marked the point half-way through in my tenure as Presiding Clerk, so that feels good. I have been asked by Nominating Committee to serve one more year and have agreed to do that.

The most difficult work was the mediation work with PSWRO. Sonia Tuma and I were asked to help mediate a difficult situation in the office where we both had worked. I was the former regional Director there and Sonia was my Associate regional Director. Shan Cretin, the present Regional Director, asked us to come in and see if we might help them to resolve some issue they were having difficulty resolving. Sonia and I worked very hard at listening to everyone and then we wrote up some recommendations for them about possible next steps in the mediation process. Last Monday was our time to answer questions about our report and to help them decide the next steps.

So, it's been a very full three weeks. Today was filled with sleeping in, having breakfast, finishing reading Merchant of Death, which I can't wait to read to Jennalise when she gets old enough, and going back to sleep for another three hours of sleep. Tonight I'll probably treat myself and go out to hear some piano music. Tomorrow I'm gonna work on my banjo a little bit. Below are some pictures from Puttin on the Hits!
